The opportunity 

Butler Concrete & Aggregate Ltd. has an immediate opening at our Victoria, BC location for an experienced Third Batchperson to join our team. This permanent, full-time position is responsible for ensuring that customers receive timely and appropriate service from the quality of batch to the delivery of Butler Concrete & Aggregate. The Third Batch Person works closely with the Outside Sales Representatives, Inside Sales Representatives, Order Takers, Dispatchers, the Sales Manager, the Fleet & Equipment Manager and Quality Control Contractors.  This position will also have daily communication with the Batch team members, Dispatchers, Order Takers and Ready-Mix Drivers.

The objective of this position is to ensure that our customers receive timely and appropriate service from quality of batch to delivery to fulfill and exceed our customers’ expectations in compliance with policies, procedures and best practices.

Job Details

Operations:

  • Close Keating Ready Mix Plant at the appropriate time after all outgoing orders and balances are complete.

  • Batch Ready-Mix Concrete utilizing Command Batch Software.

  • Ensure orders are batched and delivered on time and batched to allow appropriate mixing time to ensure a uniform mix.

  • Monitor batching process to ensure the product meets requirements.

  • Communicate with drivers and get feedback on batched concrete water demand review & adjust aggregate moisture contents.

  • Review concrete mix test results and adjust air dosage as required.

  • Follow GPS tracking of fleets during the day and ensure orders are fulfilled in a timely fashion.

  • Review concrete temperature results and adjust delvo requirements or hot water demands.

  • Monitor Cementitious & Admix inventories and place orders with suppliers.

  • Maintain a high level of quality on all calls and be knowledgeable of services, products and methods of delivery and placement of Ready-Mix Concrete.

  • Provide back up for and knowledge of after-sales support activities.

  • Collaborate with Order Takers, Sales Team, Fleet & Equipment and Sales Managers in all customer, batching, truck and plant issues/procedures.

  • Ensure Concrete mix designs are entered appropriately into Command Batch and Command Concrete with any required instructions or comments.

  • Provide detailed information for customer inquiries.

  • Ensure timely response to customer complaints with appropriate follow-up, including escalation if required.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction. This includes the ability to provide a pleasant experience for the customer.

  • Manage demand for deliveries.

  • Communicate situations that may cause delays.

  • Confirm orders, times, pour rates, access, type of placement, etc.

  • Follow the standard operating procedures and processes for the department.

  • Ensure that teamwork and professionalism are an integral part of all activities.

  • Adhere to all Butler Concrete Personnel Policies and Procedures.

  • Support other functions within the Batch Office as required.

  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Participate in safety meetings while championing a safe work culture within the team.       

  • Ensure compliance with all Butler Concrete safety requirements and procedures.

  • Provide First Aid support as required.

What you bring:

  • Three to five years’ experience in Dispatching and/or Customer Service positions.

  • A business or Technical Diploma or related field would be a strong asset.

  • Strong telephone literacy, including knowledge of using the telephone as the main medium for conducting business.

  • Strong computer skills, including Google Apps or Microsoft Office. 

  • Experience with Command batch and dispatch solutions is a strong asset.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate strong skills in problem solving, decision making and multi-tasking.

  • Maintain composure in dealing with difficult situations; demonstrate positive customer service attitude.

  • Time and self-management skills, including self-direction, effective realization of current priorities associated with answering customer calls, and scheduling callbacks while being able to reprioritize as requested.

  • Strong sense of teamwork.

  • An understanding of Construction methods and materials, including product knowledge, is an asset.
