We’re looking for an experienced Telecom Network Designer located in or around our Victoria, BC HQ — fielding and on-site work will be a requirement of this role at times.

At Driftwood Communications our Telecom Network Designers design civil infrastructure required for telecommunications projects, such as HFC plant design, Fiber Backbone design, and Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) design using existing and new underground conduit pathways and utility pole layouts for both wireline and wireless networks.  Additionally, they complete HFC and fiber optic activations designs using the latest methodologies provided by the clients.  They collaborate with key stakeholders including clients, developers, municipalities, leaders, and project managers to develop detailed designs and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.

You will...

·         Review all assigned projects and confirm scope of work is correctly defined and if not follow-up with stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and adjust quote with acceptance from client

·         Determine all project stakeholders, and collect and record role and contact information details

·         Conduct field site surveys of assigned projects to collect field data required; ensuring all information specific to the scope of the project is collected and documented

·         Prepare and layout of civil structure design: New Development, Upgrades, Expansion, Forced Relocations

·         Perform detailed design of telecommunications underground and aerial infrastructure

·         Review designs to ensure that they follow project guidelines

·         Prepare and submit various types of permits and applications required for a project: Underground Infrastructure, Civil Permits, Municipal Road Use Permits, Other types as required

·         Prepare various CAD designs & drawing to support permit applications and construction for each project: Underground infrastructure designs, Scope of Work Drawings for property management approval, other types as required

·         Maintain copies of all project communications

·         Record all information and file documents for all projects to the established standards

·         Work with regional PM and leaders to ensure schedule deadlines are adhered too, and project deliverables, and budgets are maintained

·         Travel and work on site as required

·         Follow company standards and procedures related to Health & Safety while performing assigned job duties

·         Other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.

·         3+ years of experience in telecommunications design, including fiber optics, HFC plant, wireless communications, or structured cabling systems.

·         Proficiency in CAD software

·         Strong understanding of telecommunications systems, network architecture, and infrastructure design.

·         Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., TIA, IEEE, BICSI) and regulatory requirements for telecommunications design.

·         Knowledge of GIS tools and mapping software is an advantage.

·         Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

·         Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

·         Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with clients, engineers, project managers, and contractors.

·         Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
