About the Role:
We are seeking a Controller to join our BC-based remote team. The ideal candidate is an experienced, skilled CPA - meticulously organized, self-directed, with a love of both order and variety. The Controller will work closely with our accounting team and fractional CFO to ensure the smooth operation of all financial activities at LAC. Responsibilities include accounting, strategic financial analysis, day-to-day financial operations, and management of external accounting services. The Controller manages cash flow, budgets, forecasts, and oversees accounts payable and receivable. They will also work with senior management to develop financial strategies that align with the LAC’s goals, ensuring financial integrity and efficiency across all projects.

Our company is proudly remote-first, embracing the flexibility and inclusivity this model offers. Flexibility is a key component of this position as our team works across multiple time zones.

Compensation & Benefits:
Salary Range: $125,400 - $155,000 annually
Remote within Canada (our ideal candidate has the flexibility & maturity to manage a schedule that includes occasional virtual and in-person collaboration with teams in PST, India, and United Kingdom)

What you’ll be doing…
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports
Manage accounts receivable / accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting transactions, including monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts
Perform analysis on financial results, trends, costs, and budgets
Prepare monthly invoicing for all projects
Collaborate with our external accounting partners in preparing all tax filings and payments for corporate taxes and GST
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures
Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting processes
Assist in preparation and review of annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts for presentation and discussion with the board
Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business decisions and strategic initiatives
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry standards, including CGAAP
Assist with development and implementation of HR policies related to compensation, benefits, and financial compliance
Prepare financial information for employee performance reviews and compensation planning
Oversee the purchasing of equipment, including computers and software
Identify and manage financial risks including insurance, investment and project risks
Develop and maintain internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
What you bring…
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a CPA designation
10 years’ experience in finance and accounting with at least 5 years’ experience as a Controller or similar financial leadership role, preferably within the technology industry
Strong understanding of CGAAP, financial management, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements, including for Canada and the UK
Accounting experience with a UK-based corporation is a plus
Prior experience managing and executing audits
Proficiency with QuickBooks and mastery of Microsoft Excel
Impeccable analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to work independently and productively within a remote work structure
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a team, external clients, and senior management
Knowledge of HR policies related to compensation and benefits
Familiarity with project management software is an asset
