We are redefining the Indigenous experience through a blend of tradition and technical innovation. As an Indigenous-owned technology and services company, we are planting seeds of sovereignty in the digital era to empower Indigenous Peoples and Nations. We are recognized as national leaders in Indigenous tech, serving as a truth center for digital Indigenous sovereign identity, data, membership management, community engagement, voting services, and online status card renewals and replacements. We currently support more than 300 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities across Canada, managing over 570,000 memberships. Our services include online status card applications, digital voting for Nations elections, and governance consulting through our Nations Management platform.

POSITION SUMMARY
Our Board Members are stewards of our mission and strategic direction, guiding OneFeather’s growth with integrity and deep respect for the communities we serve. As thought partners to our executive team, each Board Member contributes unique expertise and lived experience that shape our approach to technology, governance, and Indigenous sovereignty.
We are seeking a new Board Member who must self-identify as Indigenous and who brings a strong combination of leadership, lived experience, and alignment with OneFeather’s values. This individual will have a deep understanding of Indigenous governance, policy, or data sovereignty, and experience navigating complex partner environments. They will play a key role in advising on the strategic growth of our digital products and services that support Indigenous Nations and Peoples.
Whether their background is in public service, fintech, technology, or Indigenous-led organizations, our ideal candidate brings curiosity, humility, and a future-focused mindset to the Board table. This is a high-impact opportunity to join a purpose-driven team and contribute to a movement advancing Indigenous self-determination through digital innovation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Planning & Oversight
Provide guidance on long-term strategic direction aligned with the company’s mission and values.
Review, assess, and advise on major initiatives, including product expansion and market growth.
Monitor progress toward organizational goals and key performance indicators.
Offer insight on emerging opportunities and risks in the Indigenous tech and fintech spaces.
Participate in annual strategic planning sessions and help ensure the roadmap reflects community needs.
Advocate for innovation that strengthens impact and deepens user engagement.
Governance & Fiduciary Duty
Ensure the organization adheres to high standards of ethical, legal, and financial accountability.
Review and approve annual budgets, audited financial statements, and major capital expenditures.
Evaluate and manage organizational risks, with a lens on both compliance and community trust.
Support the development of strong internal policies, including those tied to equity, privacy, and data sovereignty.
Participate in regular Board evaluations and support continuous improvement in governance practices.
Provide oversight of executive compensation and succession planning.
Mission Alignment & Community Stewardship
Act as a values-based steward of the company’s commitment to Indigenous sovereignty and digital equity.
Bring community-informed perspectives to all decisions, centering Indigenous voices and experiences.Help assess impact beyond financial metrics, including cultural and social outcomes.
Advocate for ethical practices around data stewardship, privacy, and consent.
Ensure the organization maintains strong relationships with Indigenous communities and partners.Offer support and feedback to ensure cultural safety in product design, communications, and partnerships.
RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE
We are interested in adding a Board member who has knowledge in one or more of these core areas:
Fintech/Digital Banking Expertise
Federal Government Interface Experience
Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Prior experience serving on a Board or as part of a Senior Leadership team
Familiarity with governance best practices in Indigenous or impact-focused organizations
Understanding of Indigenous governance systems, traditions, and decision-making structures
Familiarity with the unique challenges and strengths of Indigenous communities across Canada
Knowledge of federal and provincial policy landscapes relevant to Indigenous rights and digital inclusion.
Commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and experimentation to create value
Proven problem-solving skills combined with a metrics-driven mindset.
A default to curiosity, creativity, and thinking outside the box to solve challenges
