About Us:
At BAUCO Access Panel Solutions Inc., we believe in treating people the way we would like to be treated and creating an environment where your expertise and passion can stand out. As a result, we pride ourselves in being the most customer-responsive access panel company in the industry.
Founded in 1995, BAUCO is a leading manufacturer and distributor of high-quality, customizable architectural access panels and grilles. We are known for innovation, precision, and service excellence. Our integrated model allows us to deliver fast lead times, custom solutions, and responsive support directly to job sites locally and across North America. Our products are featured in landmark projects such as the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles.
About The Role:
Are you a hands-on engineer who thrives at the intersection of precision design and real-world manufacturing? Do you get excited turning a blank-sheet idea into a finished product that ships to job sites around the world? If so, BAUCO Access Panel Solutions is the place where your engineering instincts will be challenged, rewarded, and celebrated every single day.
As a Product Development Engineer, you will be a key driver of innovation. You will participate in the full product lifecycle from concept sketches and CAD models through prototyping, testing, and production launch. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, you will collaborate daily with our Product Development and Manufacturing teams to design smarter, leaner, better products. This includes the opportunity to experiment with solutions and iterate on the findings. You will become a subject matter expert in how and why our products are created.
This is not a desk-bound role. You will be on the shop floor, in the design suite, and in conversations with vendors and customers, always asking how we can do it better.
A Day in the Life:
Participate in end-to-end product development: experiment, design, prototype, test, iterate, coordinate manufacturing, and establish QA plans that exceed customer expectations
Define and document manufacturing methods, machinery requirements, and staff training programs that scale with production
Apply DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly) principles to reduce cost, improve quality, and accelerate time-to-market
Champion Lean manufacturing culture by educating team members on tools, methodologies, and continuous improvement practices
Drive continuous improvement initiatives collaboratively, fostering a positive problem-solving environment on the shop floor
Develop, maintain, and refine existing product lines using advanced design techniques and data-driven decision-making
Partner with cross-functional teams and external vendors to ensure seamless integration of new designs into production
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma, Mechanical Engineering Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience
At least two (2) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or product development environment
Demonstrated expertise in product design, prototyping, and DFMA methodologies
Natural curiosity towards problem-solving, including developing solutions, testing them for real-life usage, and iterating to continue creating better solutions
Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or Alibre
Experience designing aluminum extrusion systems and sheet metal assemblies
Strong understanding of bill of materials (BOM) structure in a manufacturing context
Proven ability to identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities without compromising quality
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting
Excellent documentation skills with clear, comprehensive process and procedure records
Strong communicator who can liaise effectively across departments and with external vendors
Comfortable with light hands-on fabrication work in a shop environment
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
Bonus Points:
Knowledge of steel frame construction and drywall installation
Experience with ERP, MRP, or PDM systems
Formal Lean or Six Sigma training/certification
What We offer:
Competitive salary plus participation in the company bonus program
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision care with 100%-employer-paid premiums
Flexible paid vacation
Continuous learning and professional development
Consistent performance management process
Monthly peer recognition celebrations, staff meals, and social events
