About the Role:

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for the daily execution of our production activities. This role ensures that the production department has the people, resources, and direction required to meet the production schedule safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. This is a hands-on role for someone who will spend significant time on the shop floor, working with Team Leads and production employees to understand performance, identify problems, mitigate obstacles, and drive continuous improvement. You’re a creative problem-solver that can address the root cause  and implement solutions quickly. 

You believe in leading by example and empowering your team members to solve problems and improve the way we work. As the Production Manager, you are integral in building a culture of respect where employees are encouraged to contribute, learn new skills, and genuinely support each other. 

As BAUCO grows, this position will also play an important role in strengthening safety, quality, and production standards and in developing teams across the production floor. Every improvement made in this role makes us more productive, safer, and better organized.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

Production

• Execute the production schedule, and work with Team Leads to anticipate upcoming demands, including planning required labour and material resources

• Identify, resolve and balance bottlenecks in production by utilizing visual data 

• Ensure staffing levels, labour allocation, and training plans meet the needs of each production area

• Manage training and cross-training and track results and expirations

• Communicate regularly with the Team Leads, monitor metrics in their area, and review for areas of  improvement 

• Plan and lead shop floor Lean initiatives and 5S program, with a focus on continuous improvement and an elimination of “waste”

• Troubleshoot and resolve obstacles and address issues proactively

Safety 

• Ensure safety protocols are in place, understood, and practiced 

• Conduct area inspections and address issues quickly alongside appropriate reporting

• Empower staff to take ownership of their area and the safety of those around them

• Actively participate in the JOHSC and monitor the effectiveness of our Health and Safety Program

• Ensure First Aid staff are available for all shifts

Quality 

• Manage production quality, including quality measurement as part of the manufacturing process

• Adhere to engineering standards and seek information if specifications or processes are unclear

• Conduct root-cause analysis to fix issues at the source, and update training and procedures to prevent future incidents

• Ensure work is completed to the approved standards and that work instructions are current, understood, and available

Shop Floor Leadership 

• Empower and encourage your team to identify problems and work together to implement improvements

• Track metrics and issues and share them with each area as needed

• Build and maintain a team of engaged, dependable employees who understand the importance of their role in the company

• Foster a collaborative environment and encourage staff to contribute continuous improvement suggestions

• Set exceptional expectations for safety, quality, and productivity

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Practical experience and demonstrated capability matter more to us than any single credential. We're looking for someone with experience owning Safety, Quality, and Production, and with strong people leadership skills. 

• Significant experience leading employees in a manufacturing or production environment

• Ability to manage daily production, staffing, schedules, productivity and quality simultaneously

• Skilled in effectively managing multiple priorities while holding yourself and your team accountable for results

• Demonstrable experience using production KPIs and data to manage performance 

• Strong people leadership, coaching and performance management skills

• Inherent ability to build strong, positive relationships 

• Practical problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities  

• Strong organization, communication and follow-through skills  

• Eye for the finer details, including noting areas for improvement and offer suggestions and solutions

Strong Assets

• Experience applying Lean manufacturing or continuous-improvement principles

• Experience in a make-to-order, high-mix or custom manufacturing environment

Working Conditions

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some flexibility

• On-site position

• Time will be split between the shop floor and an office workstation
