About MGM Mechanical
We truly believe that what makes MGM Mechanical unique is its people. We’ve cultivated a cohesive team dynamic built on hard work and honesty. Collaboration is at the core of how we operate, and it shows in both the quality of our work and the pride our team takes in doing their work well. We’ve fostered a culture that feels supportive and close-knit while still operating with professionalism and expertise. Split between our talented field team and office team, MGM Mechanical embodies reliability, care, and a company commitment to getting your job done right.
MGM Mechanical primarily focuses on commercial buildings, design-build projects, tenant improvements, multi-unit residential, government projects, as well as various other institutional and light industrial projects. Our institutional portfolio ranges from provincial school projects, Canadian naval and military base upgrades, healthcare and hospital upgrades, and other federal or provincial buildings.
Who We're Looking For
You’re a dependable, detail-focused accounting professional who thrives in a busy, people-oriented environment. You bring at least two (2) years of Canadian payroll and AP experience, ideally with QuickBooks Time and QuickBooks Payroll exposure. You’re confident handling everything from bank reconciliations and cash flow updates to remittances and processing ROEs. You balance accuracy and deadlines with a warm, collaborative approach and can own critical payroll cycles while contributing to an engaging, social and dog‑friendly office. As the Senior Controller’s right hand, you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, support our upcoming office move, and help keep MGM Mechanical’s finances and people operations running smoothly.
Why You'll Love This Role
You’re not just processing payroll; you’re a trusted member of the team, keeping cash flow, payroll, and AP running smoothly. You will work side-by-side with a knowledgeable CPA acting as your mentor and thought partner. From your day-to-day work, you will continue building your expertise in Canadian payroll and accounting in a construction setting.
Our office is social, dog-friendly, and down-to-earth, with free parking, team lunches, and a casual dress code. Flexible start times support real balance. Because MGM is small and local, your accuracy, ideas, and initiative are visible to leadership, giving you the chance to shape better processes, grow your responsibilities, and become the go-to person for payroll and payables in a supportive workplace.
What You'll Do
You’ll own the day-to-day rhythm of payroll and payables. You’ll keep bank reconciliations and cash flow accurate and up-to-date, prepare and process bi-weekly payroll in QuickBooks, and handle remittances to CRA, EHT, WCB, and administer benefits and RRSP contributions. You’ll manage core tasks like ROEs, onboarding and rehires in our systems, and follow checklists in Monday.com to keep deadlines on track. You’ll also be a friendly, reliable presence in the office, answering calls as needed, greeting visitors and suppliers, and supporting the Senior Controller as needed..
What We're Looking For
2+ years of Canadian payroll processing experience
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, CRA requirements (e.g. CPP, EI), and the BC Employment Standards Act
Core accounting knowledge, including understanding GL entries, reading financial statements, and performing account reconciliations)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
High attention to detail, strong discretion with confidential data, and excellent time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
