The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic team as the Director of Finance and be part of our journey to make a real difference to the Greater Victoria community!  Reporting to the Executive Director, you'll be managing a dynamic team of financial staff to deliver financial activities, including full-cycle accounting and payroll, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, accounts payables, accounts receivables, and financial analysis.  As a key member of our leadership team, you will work collaboratively across departments to ensure financial excellence through financial process optimization and compliance with policies and funding agreements.

We operate on a $7M budget through service contracts with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and Community Living BC (CLBC). What You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Overseeing all financial activities, including full-cycle accounting and payroll, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, accounts payables, accounts receivables, and financial analysis.

  • Developing and maintaining financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

  • Preparing financial reports, statements, and presentations for management, the Board of Directors, and funding.

  • Supporting the work of the Finance Committee, which reports to the Board of Directors through the Treasurer. Board Treasurer is the Chair of the Finance Committee

  • Supervising financial staff, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative environment.

  • Managing payroll processes and ensuring all required remittances and returns are compliant.

  • Monitoring and analyzing financial performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Collaborating with departments to support strategic decision-making and drive business growth

  • Ensuring timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.

  • Coordinating with external auditors and ensures compliance with all applicable financial regulations.

  • Leading the conversion of the finance function to a paperless environment.

  • Performing other related duties as required.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Personal alignment with the organizational values of collaboration, courage, and integrity.

  • Strong motivation to, and demonstrated success in, leading a professional management team in a collaborative and positive culture.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Solid understanding of budgets, collective agreements, reporting and accreditation standards.

  • CPA designation with 5+ years of previous experience managing full cycle accounting in a non-profit environment.
