We are looking for an experienced Senior Law Clerk or Senior Legal Assistant to join our team in Toronto, supporting lawyers engaged in complex Aboriginal, environmental, and natural resources litigation. You will become a part of a talented team doing meaningful, high-impact work, and you’ll play a key role in helping build a strong, collaborative foundation in our Toronto jurisdiction of our practice.

What You’ll Do

·         Coordinate with court registries and manage logistics for appearances at all levels of court, from Superior to Federal to Supreme.

·         Use of litigation software, databases, and document management systems to keep complex litigation files organized and moving.

·         Take ownership of calendars, schedules, filing timelines, and priorities, to ensure nothing gets missed and the team stays steps ahead.

·         Prepare, edit, and format a wide range of court documents including pleadings, affidavits, application and interlocutory materials, including Motion Records, and other court materials.

·         Confidently manage e-filing and upload hyperlinked materials for e-hearings through platforms like Case Centre and Justice Services Online.

·         Communicate directly with courts, regulators, and government offices to obtain accurate information, solve problems, and move matters forward.

·         Keep client files (electronic and hard copy) meticulously organized and accessible, maintaining the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.

What You’ll Bring

·         6+ years of lived and learned experience in providing excellence in litigation support, ideally involving multiple, complex, document-heavy case files at all judicial levels.

·         Post-secondary program certification in a legal assistant or law clerk area of discipline is preferred.

·         Strong knowledge of civil procedures in Ontario’s Federal, and Supreme Court with the ability to quickly adapt in other jurisdictions.

·         Experience with ON Online, litigation software, and document management systems (i.e. NetDocs).

·         Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), Microsoft 365 applications (including OneDrive, OneNote, and Teams) and PDF programs; knows how to leverage shortcuts to save everyone time and ensure complete and accurate filing completion.

·         Excellent organization, sound judgment, confidence, and the ability to anticipate needs.

·         A calm, capable presence under pressure; someone who brings focus and structure to a busy practice and dynamic team of lawyers.

·         Curiosity, reliability, adaptability, and dependability.

·         Experience working with Indigenous nations, communities, or organizations is an asset.

·         Willingness to travel to Indigenous communities for client work, maintaining strong relationships, and document gathering.

This role is full-time, with an in-office presence due to workflow and valued team collaboration.  

While our firm supports a hybrid work environment, this position is primarily based in our Toronto office to foster collaboration within the local team.
